Abstract
Introduction: Autism Spectrum Disorder ( ASD) is a developmental disorderthat affects the areas of language , communication and socialization. The prevalence has been increasing in the last years, been now 1:88. Although designed different types of intervention, care of caregivers have always relegated to asecond level. However we believe that this condition can severely affect the emotional and physical aspects of the parents, so that the intervention shouldbe done with them from the moment of diagnosis. Objective: To measure the levelof emotional overload and parental somatic symptoms that are reflected incaregivers of children with ASD. Methodology: The Zarit Symptom Inventory andSCL -90- R questionnaires were used to 13 mothers of children with ASD to assess their level of emotional and psychosomatic involvement. Results: The test indicated high levels of emotional overload andhigh prevalence ofheadaches and low interest in sex. Conclusion: At the timeof diagnosis of achild with ASD, it is important to consider the emotional aspects ofcaregivers, considering the high psycho- emotional impact that this disease cancause. Interventions should be planned for both children and parents, in orderto mitigate the impact of the diagnosis.
