Abstract

Introduction:A group of 132 children from the intensive care neonatal unit  at a hospital during 2006-2010 period  had  clinical recognized epileptic episodes. A first study defined incidence and etiology, another one showed long term effects of zeisures in that group. In this study evolution of thosewhich their sequelae was epilepsywas  analyzed. Objectives:To recognized neonatal epileptic síndrome. To analize complementary studies  protocols to characterize epileptical seizures during neonatal periodTo described evolution and outcome of those children who developed epilepsy. Identify probable epileptic syndromes in childhood. Method and material:Neurophisiological and neuroimagesanalisys.Clinical histories revisión.Clinical child neurology evaluation. Results: Inicialn  = 132 - Deads = 24- Contacted = 97- Epilepsy = 30-Non epilepsy = 67Of 30 children with neonatal epileptic episodes (NEE)23 were released  without eeg-7 with eeg-  2 with low amplitude, 2  had paroxistic activity, 3 were normal. Of  30 children with nee 1 was released without neuroimage, while 29 had neuroimages being  22pathological and 7  normal.Neonatal epileptic syndromes identified = 13 - 2 BFNZ/BNIZ –Sintomatic Epilepsy 5( 1 cortical dysplasia- 4 hidrocephalus)-6 epilepsy of  unkownorigen.Conclussions:high level of difficulties were present in the long term follow up of NEE–our nee protocols lack on neurophisiological  studies–monitoring neonates brain electrical activity is mandatory to improve the intents on classifying epileptic syndromes during neonatal period.
