Abstract
Purpose: Recurrent headaches are common among Korean students cusing absences from school or social activity impediments. The aim of this study was to investigate perception and performance of headache management among school healh teachers.
Methds: This was a cross-sectional study targeting 250 school nurses who participated in thd training lecture hosted by and were working at elementary, middle, and high scools in G metropolitan city. Surveys with insufficient data were excluded. The data analyzed usng the IBM SPSS 23.0 for windows.
Resuls: Participants were 176 school nurses; 100 elementary school nurses, 520 middle school nurses, and 26 high school nurses, with an average age of 42.47 +/- 8.30 years. The mean scores of perception and performance of headache management among school health teachers were 3.88+/- 0.33 (range 1-5), 3.79 +/-0.40 (range 1-5), respectively. Their perception of headache managemet had a statistically significant correlation with the performance of headache management (r=0.50, p<0.001). In aregression analysis, the performance of headache managent was significantly influenced by the perception of headachemanagement. The regression model explained 25.4% of the variance of performance of headache management.
Conclusion: The perception of headache management among school health teachers was a significant correlation with the performance of headache management. It suggests that headache knowledge education should be performed and the standardized headache management guideline should be developed to improve the performance of school nurses.
