Neurodevelopmental disease pattern in a tertiary care hospital-An experience in Bangladesh.

Abstract


Introduction:

Neurodevelopmental disorder is common childhood problems throughout the world. Its prevalence increased during the past several decades, and the environment is likely to play a role. Worldwide 3-4% of children suffers from neurodevelopmental disorder.

Objective:

Objective of this study was to see the neurodevelopmental disease pattern attended in CDC(Child developmental center) in tertiary care hospital.

Study design:

A cross sectional study was done who come to CDC from January 2017 to December 2017 in tertiary care hospital. Total 350 patients attended in our center during this period. Out of 350,100 children were selected for general assessment. General assessment was made by Bayles scale of infant development, Conner’s parents rating scales (ADHD),Reynell zinkin test,(GDD,VI),ADOS (Autism diagnostic observation schedule), Rapid neurodevelopmental assessment (RNDA)

Result:

Among 100 children male were 69 and the female were 31, Boys are more affected than the girls. Average age of the children were 2 Years and most of the children (90) were below 3 years of age. Most identified problems were: ASD (autism spectrum disorders) 25% ,CP with epilepsy 16 %, CP with epilepsy with low vision 13%,CP with epilepsy with GDD 9%, Motor, speech and cognition delay 8%,Psychomotor delay with epilepsy 3%, Hemiplegics CP 3% ,CP with epilepsy with GDD with SAM 2%,ADHD  with Language disorder 2%,Epilepsy with speech and cognition delay 2%, Behavior problem 1%,CP with ID 1%  and others 6%.

Conclusion:

Neurodevelopmental problems are commonly seen in children who attended at CDC.  So early intervention and attention is required for proper management.
