Abstract
Background: This study reviews the interventions and Practices of non progressive Neurological problems in Children of Uttar Pradesh, most populated state of India with highest disability rate.
It also offers solutions by information technology which has been used to develop intervention programs.
Method: Questionnaire to access parental anxiety and Griffith’s III developmental assessment over a period of 36 months.
Result: Parental concerns were to normalise their children stems for lack of awareness and acceptance in the society. There is also lack of support and understanding from schools and government which increases parental anxiety. The study showed that in the first group which was an observation of current practises 85% of parents moved between various services and opted non evidence based drugs.
In the second group all parents were explained the diagnosis, problems and solution in day to day life. Parents were offered mindfulness and bonding programs based on their stress index. All children had diagnostic and functional ability assessment( Griffith’s III) every 3 months to monitor parents. Interventions, home plan and Goals were shared with parents to guide and motivate them. This reduced the drop out rate and parental anxiety from 85% to 40%.
Conclusion: In non progressive neurological problems Information technology can be used to monitor progress, video advise by expert, training of health professionals in the periphery areas and providing interventions. This pilot project plan be expanded to various other cities of Uttar Pradesh to lay the foundation of a bigger research study.
