Introduction : Seizures and Epilepsy are common in school age children.

Objectives: To study the level of awareness among primary school teachers on first aid, seizure management and to assess if empowering them with knowledge and skills could improve the care of children with epilepsy.

Methods: This is a KAP (knowledge Attitude Practice) - questioner based study, done in January 2018. 40 primary schools from a major city were sent the 15 standard questions about Seizures and its management in children. Upon receipt of completed questionnaires, teachers were counseled telephonically and written information in the local language was sent to them and a month later the same questionnaire was resent to them to see if it changed their knowledge, attitude, and practice.

Results: 121 teachers of 40 primary schools replied back with the questionnaire. Confidentiality of teachers and school was maintained.

Conclusion / Discussion:

Training of school teachers, can change their knowledge, attitude and practice with significant impact on the care of children with epilepsy at school. Literature suggests it helps with the child’s education and participation in school and in community.
