Abstract

Objectives: We aimed to identify the features of etiopathogenesis of symmetric and asymmetric intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) perinatal period among children with different variants of the clinical course.

Methods: We provided retrospective analyze in 50 case histories of children of different age groups from 1 to 8 years with IVH in perinatal period, being on rehabilitative treatment. We collected characteristics of obstetric history, data of neurological status, neuropsychological testing and determined the severity of complications, assessing by also ultrasound and MRI methods.

Results: We found that 65.4% children had double-sided IVH, of them - in 20 cases (34.6%) we determined bilateral lesion of the lateral ventricles. The study of etiopathogenic factors revealed that hypoxia and acute respiratory viral infections often lead to bilateral hemorrhage, more on left side (35% and 36%, respectively). It confirms the existing theory of the higher resistance of the left hemisphere of the brain to acute hypoxia compared with the right. When comparing the symmetry of the hemorrhage and the extent of IVH we have found that with increasing degree of IVH severity increases the number of cases with symmetrical hemorrhages (with IVH III-36%), and bleeding, more on right side (29%).

Conclusions: In most cases, bleeding had double-sided character, a third of them was bilateral lesion, more on the left side. Bilateral symmetrical hemorrhage, which developed as a result of toxic action, often associated with head injuries.
