Webinar Series: Fundamentals of Paediatric Neuroradiology for Clinicians
About the Webinar Series:
The course will focus on the essential principles of paediatric neuroradiology, aiming to bridge the gap between clinical practice and imaging interpretation for child neurologists and neuroradiologists. Expert speakers will review the fundamentals of neuroimaging modalities (MRI, CT, and advanced techniques such as DTI and functional imaging), key normal developmental milestones in brain imaging, and common pathological findings encountered in paediatric practice, including epilepsy, metabolic and genetic disorders, infections, and neuro-oncology. The session will highlight the critical role of neuroradiology in guiding clinical decision-making, improving diagnostic precision, and supporting timely therapeutic intervention and optimizing interdisciplinary communication to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes. Case-based discussions will further showcase practical approaches and pitfalls in everyday clinical practice.
Learning Objectives of the series:
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
1. Understand the fundamentals of pediatric brain MRI sequences and anatomy.
2. Identify key supratentorial and infratentorial structures on MRI.
3. Recognise imaging patterns of common congenital, metabolic, neoplastic, and traumatic brain disorders in children.
4. Differentiate between pathological findings and common mimics.
5. Interpret pediatric MRI findings in the context of clinical presentations.
6. Communicate effectively with radiologists using correct neuroimaging terminology.
Session 2 (September 26th 2025): Malformations & Neonatal Injury
Topics Covered:
○ Cortical Malformations: Lissencephaly, polymicrogyria, heterotopia
○ Hindbrain Malformations: Chiari malformations, Dandy-Walker spectrum, cerebellar hypoplasia
○ Neonatal Encephalopathy: Patterns of hypoxic-ischemic injury, timing and prognosis
Key Skills:
○ Correlating structural malformations with clinical syndromes
○ Recognizing common perinatal brain injury patterns
