Regarding investigation of prognostic factors for HHV 6/7- associated acute encephalopathy

I commend Watanabe et al. for their significant finding of coma as a significant risk factor for poor neurological prognosis of human herpesvirus (HHV) 6/7-associated acute encephalopathy (AE). Utilizing the Pediatric Cerebral Performance Category scale (PCPC) comparing the non-severe sequelae group and severe sequelae group, the authors elucidated that there were significantly more cases of coma in the acute phase, and thalamic lesions on MRI, in the severe neurological sequelae group [1]. A limitation highlighted in the manuscript by the authors was that the present retrospective study did not include a long-term evaluation of patient prognosis.
