[Comment] Discontinuing disease-modifying multiple sclerosis therapies

Disease-modifying therapies approved over the past 30 years have improved outcomes for individuals with multiple sclerosis by reducing the occurrence of relapses and delaying the progression of disability.1 However, as people with multiple sclerosis age, relapses become less common and drug-related safety concerns increase, including risks of infection and malignancy.2 Observational studies of the safety of discontinuing disease-modifying therapies have been inconclusive, with some studies3,4 supporting discontinuation in patients older than 60 years.
