[In Context] Sigmund Freud's shift

In October 1876, in Vienna, Austria, Sigmund Freud joined the physiology laboratory of Ernst Wilhelm von Brücke, where he studied the brains and spinal cords of vertebrates and invertebrates. He demonstrated that their nerve cells are similar,1 in agreement with the work of Charles Darwin on evolutionary processes. Freud then became Theodor Meynert's student, between 1877 and 1879. Meynert coined the term organology of the cortext and proposed a purely anatomical classification of mental diseases.
