Symposium Title: Genetic Movement Disorders: up and coming genes and novel therapeutic approaches
Summary
In the last years mutations in various genes have been found to be responsible for a series of child movement disorders which were previously unexplained. The implications of these discoveries on the clinical evaluation, genetic counselling and management of the patients will be discussed. The symposia will also include highlights of innovative approaches to gene therapy in these often debilitating conditions.
Learning objectives
1. To educate the practicing child neurologist on the advances in genetic movement disorders, including diagnosis, counselling and management of these conditions
2. To promote awareness about ongoing collaborative opportunities for the study and diagnosis of children with suspected genetic movement disorders
3. To promote opportunity for multicentric studies on rare genetic movement disorders which will increase scientific knowledge about these conditions
