Super-Refractory Status Epilepticus is a devastating condition with potentially catastrophic consequences, being characteristically challenging to treat. During this Journal Club, using the primer of a real-life case study, a review of current guidelines for treating this entity will be discussed, focusing on the role of Ketogenic Therapies.
By attending the session, you will be able to learn the following points:
- To review the literature on the management of NORSE/FIRES, entities that frequently present as Super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE), with a specific focus on international guidelines.
- To understand the role of the Ketogenic Diet (KD) as a proven, safe, and effective treatment alternative for SRSE.
- To overview KD's proposed mechanisms of action, characteristics in each phase of SRSE as well as possible complications and considerations.
